Who is it for?

The hassle-free apprenticeship

ATNZ provides you with the benefits of having an apprentice without the trouble of formally employing. It’s easy and hassle free for you and that is why ATNZ is New Zealand’s largest employer of mechanical engineering apprentices.

The ATNZ apprentice programme is managed by Competenz and we take care of all the hassles. Competenz, within the cost of the hourly rate, will

  • Recruit
  • Do pre-employment drug tests
  • Employ
  • Handle any HR issues
  • Pay the apprentice
  • Take care of sick pay, holiday pay, Kiwi Saver and ACC contributions
  • Do the assessments
  • Mentor the apprentice
  • Provide the apprentice’s tools and protective equipment
  • Pay for block courses and night classes or correspondence study
  • One fixed fee with no hidden costs

ATNZ is the largest employer of engineering, refrigeration and fire protection apprentices in New Zealand. We’re looking for keen hands-on learners who are after real career opportunities.

Do you fit the profile?

  • You want to earn while you learn.
  • You are committed to 3–4 years of study.
  • You are a practical, hands-on person.
  • You are interested in mechanical engineering trades
  • You have NCEA level 1 (or even 2) in Maths or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Preferably you have a restricted or full driver licence.
