Refrigeration and air conditioning engineers manufacture, install and maintain the components used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. These systems provide a climate-controlled environment, so storing and transporting perishable items such as food and medicine is possible. 

Your work environment can change from a shipping container to an apartment block one day to the next.

Entry Requirements

  • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • At least 16 years of age (unless early leaving exemption (ELX) has been granted).
  • While not a prerequisite, it is recommended that people enrolling in this programme hold the National Certificate in Education Achievement (NCEA) Level 2 or equivalent.
  • People enrolling in this programme must hold a relevant position in an engineering or manufacturing organisation and have signed an apprenticeship training agreement.
