Fitting and machining engineers (fitter machinists) make and assemble components for the plant and equipment used in New Zealand industries and exported worldwide.

The components are made and fitted to exact specifications using established, modern engineering processes and machinery.

Entry Requirements

  • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • At least 16 years of age (unless early leaving exemption (ELX) has been granted).
  • While not a prerequisite, it is recommended that people enrolling in this programme hold the National Certificate in Education Achievement (NCEA) Level 2 or equivalent.
  • People enrolling in this programme must hold a relevant position in an engineering or manufacturing organisation and have signed an apprenticeship training agreement.
